Personal statement!

I just found my old personal statement, the essay that you write and upload with your application to universities, you would like to study. So, here's mine and I wrote it last year at the end of my Foundation:
There was a word count limit and the system would't let you have more than 700 words. So, I cropped my first 1500 words;)

The one who has ability to attract people and make them believe that they are receiving trustworthy information is the media. Nowadays, it is extremely hard to express your own vision or to be heard and supported. Even having great knowledge and strong arguments, it can be not enough to persuade the public’s view. The most significant reasons of why these people possess such influence on masses are: reliable information, its proper exposition and filtering of data. Journalism, Mass media and Broadcasting are now highly developed industries comparing to 868 A.D when the first newspaper was printed in China.

Due to progress in technology now, besides newspapers it is a variety of sources that deliver information, such as journals, internet blogs, TV news, shows and advertisements. This area continues to rapidly develop and I am highly motivated toward a career in this kind of industry.

Introducing myself, I would like to say that I am very communicative and open-minded person. Using my adaptability skills I can come to understanding with different people. When I was eight, in addition to school I attended ballet classes. I met a lot of people, even our national ballet stars and that was my first communicational experience. At the age of ten, I started my art classes with absolutely different type of people. Involving in both ballet and art helped me to organize my time, so I can be successful in everything I do. One of my biggest passions-tennis helped me in improving my health and achieving aims, as if you want to become successful in tennis, you should be very brave and self-controlled.

Passage to our country’s capital was a life changing for me. I attended private school called “The International College of Continuous Education” and I had an opportunity to work on several personal projects where I demonstrated highly developed Approaches to Learning skills. My school opened my eyes on desire to be involved in media and journalism. I was a member of Students’ union and head of School’s weekly newspaper.

Moving to a new culture also influenced on my choice of degree. I see UK as the best places to work in media because it is a multinational country and while doing Foundation program I have met international students from all over the world. IFP was my first experience in academic works. I was given by a choice of modules. International relations and politics helped me to better understanding of complicated language of news reports, ideologies, and theories around us.

Also I took Business studies as this subject covers almost all aspects of life. ‘Journalism is an economy within itself’, so this means that as well as business and economy media is a major area in people’s lives. I used to enjoy studying geography in my high school, so I picked ‘Human geography’ module. During this year we study about how people develop particularly in London, its original people and migrants as well.

‘Today we are beginning to notice that new media are not just mechanical gimmicks for creating worlds of illusion, but new languages with new unique powers of expression’ (Marshall McLuhan). I see myself as part of this ‘new media’. Given the opportunity I am sure I will contribute a lot to the university and to the field of media, while gaining knowledge and experience in an area that I truly enjoy.

But the only wish is not deficient; you need to learn a lot, be ready to probe, make mistakes and work until you will create a valuable product. Journalist is a person who will never stop to gain knowledge, learn on his own and somebody’s mistakes. I think to take an interview or to issue an article, which may move heart and to make people think, you need to find the mutual language with them first and express complex things by simple and comprehensive way.

It’s a responsible and exciting job since the historians are taking care of the past, politicians about the promising future and only journalists – about the present.
